Burton, of Burton snowboards. Chill works in 14 inner-city areas across the US
and Canada. Each winter, Chill takes over 2200 at-risk youth to the mountains,
teaches them how to snowboard, gives them everything they need for the
experience, and shows them a new world of possiblities.
Chill serves youth who are challenged by a
multitude of issues: youth in group homes and
foster care; with addictions; from the juvenile
justice system; from alternative schools and
community centers; those struggling with drugs,
violence, excessive anger, or depression.
Many of the kids have never left their cities,
even their neighborhoods, and most have never
been to the mountains. Chill gives all of these kids the chance to shed their
labels of addict, delinquent, troublemaker, or underachiever, and, through
their own personal success, become a snowboarder.
Chill uses the vehicle of snowboarding to help kids accomplish goals they never thought they could while teaching
them some of the most important lessons of life: patience, persistence, respect, courage, responsibility, and
pride-all through positive adult role models who treat the kids with respect and encouragement.
SKI BUMS is especially pleased to present The Blizzard Bash to help the 170 New York City-area kids who will
participate in this year's Chill program at Mountain Creek, along with the thousands of other kids nationwide
whose lives will be changed this winter through the Chill program. SKI BUMS is committed to giving back to our
community. Last year, we raised over $10,000 to benefit AIDS Walk New York, and we are a proud donor for this
