Registration is free — and we’ve extended registration through June 17.
It's open to any SKI BUMS member over the age of 21. Invite your friends to join the fun -- the more, the merrier!
This year's edition is free for all participants to enter.
The primary competition is on Saturday, June 20. A very small number of people will qualify for our Grand Finale; those who qualify will compete live at our Pride Party on Thu June 25, where our Grand Prize winner will be announced. You MUST attend our Prize Party to win.
There are new requirements this year. All competitors will need the following:
+ A NYC MTA "Unlimited" MetroCard + A smartphone with the ability to connect to the internet, take photos and share them online + A Facebook account and an Instagram account (with each of these apps on your smartphone) + At least $30 in cash for incidental purchases during the course of the competition
If you enjoy an outdoor adventure, you'll love The Bums Rush. It's not a test of strength or stamina; it's a test of strategy, creativity and smarts. Your physical pace is up to you -- and as all previous winners will report, "it's not about how fast you get there. It's about going to the right place."
You must be 21 years of age to enter The Bums Rush. Employees and affiliates of our event sponsors may not enter the competition. This contest is open to LGBT people and straight-allies; all are welcome. You do not need to be a previous member of SKI BUMS to enter the contest, but you must register or renew a free SKI BUMS membership to participate. Membership is free and there's no obligation.
Check-in begins at our Starting Line at 10:00 AM, at the LGBT Community Center at 208 W. 13th Street. Most participants will be eliminated throughout the day. The schedule includes breaks for food, rest & downtime to get to know the others in the contest.
There will be a handful of new rules this year; we'll send all participants the rules before the competition begins, and review them at our check-in and starting line. You may want to read-through a PDF of our last competition's rules (take note; digital cameras are no longer required), and a sample clue from our 2010 edition. All participants must become familiar with the rules before the contest. Those who do not follow our rules during the competition will be disqualified.
For our 2015 edition, we're benefiting charities in the states where we love to ski and snowboard. When you register, you'll select a charity from the list below.
75% of our proceeds will benefit the chosen charity of our grand prize winner; the remaining proceeds will be divided equally among each of the other charities. Click the links below to learn more about each charity; they're all incredible organizations that deserve your love and support!
Unlike previous editions of the contest, this year all entrants are registering as individuals. The competition will include several collaborative elements -- but you will not form teams before the competition begins.
If you win our Grand Prize, you may still select a roommate (or have us assign you someone) just as you would on any SKI BUMS trip.
For 2016, SKI BUMS is thrilled to host a return trip to the spectacular Italian Dolomites. Site of the Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics in 1956 and more than a dozen interconnected ski resorts like Alta Badia and Val Gardena, this UNESCO World Heritage site is home to jaw-dropping, spectacular scenery and a world-famous culinary history. Our grand prize includes everything that's included in the SKI BUMS trip, plus a night in Venice and round-trip coach airfare! Learn more about our trip to the Dolomites >
Participants may be eliminated during the course of the competition. For those who make it to the end and qualify for the grand finale, we estimate the contest will be complete by 7:00 PM.
Anyone can enter our raffle -- you don't need to be at our party to win -- so please support the cause and buy some raffle tickets! They make great surprise gifts for someone you're dating. ;)
You could win awesome prizes like: resort lift tickets, ski and snowboard gear, theater tickets, spa visits and hotel stays! All proceeds go to benefit the charity chosen by the winner of The Bums Rush!
