Upon arrival, we break into skill level groups. It will give you the chance to meet those who enjoy the same difficulty of runs -- at the same pace -- as you do. Identify my skill level group >
Proper clothing is essential for any day of skiing or snowboarding; you must be properly outfitted for the slopes. (Do not ski or ride in jeans.) Thankfully, SKI BUMS members receive incredible discounts (30-50% OFF) at Backcountry.com, the world's largest ski & snowboard online retailer.
On the way to the resort, we dim the lights and keep all conversations low… but most of the BUMS enjoy a sleepy nap on the way to the mountain. Shortly before arrival, we'll wake you up with a perky pep talk and talk you through the day.
Helmet use is expected for all SKI BUMS trip participants. If you do not own a helmet, you can rent one for $10. All snowboarders should wear wrist guards.
Space is limited. Only those who sign up via the SKI BUMS website may join the trip.

We get discounts on our rentals. You may add a ski or snowboard rental package when you sign up for the trip. Ski packages include skis, boots and poles. Snowboard packages include a snowboard and boots.
If you only need certain items -- i.e., you own boots but need skis -- do not pay for our rental package. It's cheaper for you to simply rent the items you need directly at the resort. Typically, about half of our participants bring their own equipment.

Drivers will be given specific instructions on where to meet us on the mountain, but you should plan on being AT the resort at least 45 minutes before the lifts open. After our bus arrives and we break up into skill level groups then disperse, it will be nearly impossible to connect with us again before lunchtime.
Lift tickets, etc: Those who drive to meet us must purchase their own lift tickets, rentals, etc. We're sorry, but we cannot offer discounted lifts or rentals for those who drive.
Membership dues: When you sign up as a daytrip driver, you do not qualify for a membership dues rebate.
New to the BUMS? It's helpful to know that the bus ride up and back is an integral part of the social element of our trips. If you're brand new to SKI BUMS, we highly recommend riding the bus with us -- it's the best way to make new friends and become a part of the group.

SKI BUMS trips are always extra fun when you've got a few friends along for the adventure. Best of all, if your friends don't ski or ride at the same level as you, they'll still have a super-fun group of people to join them on the mountain!

The traditional happy hour at a ski resort, après-ski is the chance to gather together again and toast an excellent day on the mountain! The real party, however, happens on the way home...
One of the most fun-filled parts of the SKI BUMS season, our daytrip bus parties are legendary. Everyone brings homemade food and drinks to share, and we crank the tunes for our 2012 Daytrip Party Playlist! Rock out to our playlist for free on Spotify >
Plan ahead for what you want to bring; we store our food & drinks in the storage area of the bus during the day, which keeps things cold. On the way home, we pass everything around!
FOOD: Savory items tend to be more popular than sweet ones, and the crowd is usually craving protein; it's dinnertime. Think picnic foods. Mini-sandwiches, wraps, etc. are always a big hit. Avoid nuts or anything with a dip or a sauce; they'll spill. Bags of pretzels and factory-made cookies are a bad idea: no one eats 'em. The BUMS like a spectrum of flavors… have fun with it!
DRINKS: On the whole, the BUMS are a beer-drinking crowd. Craft beers & light beers are always popular. (If your bottles need a bottle opener, please bring one: we always appreciate extras.) Pre-mixed cocktails can be fun, but bring BIG Solo cups to help avoid spills. Bottles of wine are a no-no; they always spill.

These groups are flexible. You may ski or snowboard with whomever you wish.
Beginner
You're most comfortable on gently sloped, wide open terrain. You may be a "total newbie," or you're still working on linking your turns. We love our Group 1 BUMS!
Intermediate
You use turns to control your speed and ski / ride in control. You enjoy terrain that's a little steeper or more narrow, but you tend to avoid black diamond runs.
Advanced
You're confident on steeper, more difficult slopes. You enjoy a challenge, but you might avoid moguls (bumps) or the steepest slopes.
Expert
You ski / ride in excellent command on all East Coast terrain. You enjoy steeps and move confidently through mogul runs.

Our daytrips are where it all began. Today, they're famous for a few things. For starters, they're a supremely easy way to participate in SKI BUMS and meet a whole lot of people in just one day. They're an affordable escape to the mountains -- less than three hours away from NYC -- and we even host a special daytrip for new skiers and snowboarders, lovingly known as Bunny Hill. Our rollicking bus trip parties, however, may get the most hubbub. Everyone brings picnic food and drinks to share, and we crank up the tunes on our daytrip party playlist. It's an amazingly easy way to forget all your worries for a day and make a whole mountain of new friends.
UPDATE, JAN 26: Only five spaces remain for our Wednesday daytrip to Windham. Get it while you can!

There's nothing quite as much fun as watching total grownups act like kids… in the snow. That's how our newbies fared on Bunny Hill, our first daytrip of the year that's devoted to those who learn to ski or ride for the first time. 10 virgin BUMS tackled the Bunny Hill while 40 more of us cheered them on, and as the pictures show -- they looked amazing!
